Congo Volcano Installation
The volcano mod is pretty easy to install. It's a simple light strip that plugs into the standard light strip locations. The strip comes preprogrammed in a red fading pulse so you should not need to use the remote to make changes. Unfortunately, we no longer have a congo and cannot take any photos. But here are the steps:
1) Remove the congo volcano plastic.
2) Feed the led strip through the bottom of the playfield near the vertical upkick that ejects the balls out of the volcano.
3) The strip will go somewhere around the upkick facing forward. But do not peel and attach it yet. We will position it while the game is on.
4) Remove the translite and fold down the speaker panel, grab the wires and pull them into the head. The wires are intentionally very long so that there is plenty of slack when the head is folded down.
5) The light strip comes with a connector for the power driver board. Congo shipped in both WPC and WPC95 editions. So, for WPC, this will go in J116, J117, or J118 on the bottom left of the power driver board. On WPC95, this will go into J139, J140, or J141 of the power driver board on the upper left. The connectors are interchangeable and all present 5v and 12v power. Some of the connectors will be 2 wire (12v and ground). Others will be 3 wire (5v, 12v, and ground). We will want to use one of the 2 wire connectors. in the picture below, the two top connectors are two wires. Either of these will work.
6) At this point, it's a good idea to power on your game and test. You can then move the strip around and lay the volcano plastic over it to get a feel for how it will look. The strip will probably attach near the bottom of the upkicker facing forward. Once you're happy with the location, peel and stick the strip.
7) Reattach the volcano plastic.
8) It's a good idea to use some tie straps to secure the wires underneath the playfield. Keep the remote stored in case the controller loses its programming (This has never happened).
